People have a leaning towards the belief that in this life numbers alone mark success.
Put another way, numbers count!
There are situations where this is correct. But just beware that this does not create a blind spot.
Bloggers can, and do, attract followers of thousands.
Stars of stage and screen and sporting venues have fans turning out in similar numbers.
Singers and entertainers hold audiences by the score, night after night.
But when all that razzmatazz settles, the relationship that counts most is one.
Just one.
One – whom you have made happy.
One – who trusts you completely.
One – who depends upon you.
For when my stay on earth is done.
and I receive the call to “Come –
give all the numbers, state the sum
of those you’ve helped, or those you’ve won.”
I’ll stand erect, and tell the Son –
“Just one that’s all – just one.”
Down through these fast-flown years of mine,
Regrets – a few – but nothing I’m
deterred about ; well down this line
options remain, and I am fine,
to carry on, my hope refine,
to love just one: one at a time.
