These engineers are not front-line when it comes to flying. They are the background-boys. They are hidden from those crowds at air-shows, flocking to see Pilots put their vintage machines through their paces. But without engineers like these two pictured here with their backs to the publicity cameras, intent upon their tasks, there would be no air-show, no great and glorious fly-pasts, no “glory-boy” pilots. Even that engine is not front-line. It is hidden from public view under the cowlings. But it is still the Rolls Royce Merlin V12 power source, making its presence known by thunderous sound, but also by its thrust and performance. Similarly, people that are key and visible in society, attracting attention of many, are usually backed up by others not so visible and well known, but who have their supportive contribution to make to those in the frontline. Those quiet men and women, content to fill a little space – behind the scenes – if the common Cause can be carried forward. Such people are needed people.
